Rochelongue Plage is in my opinion the best of the beaches in Cap d'Agde. Cap d'Agde is the largest beach resort in France and is located on the Mediterranean coast in the South of France, in between Cote d'Azur and the Spanish border. The nearby cities of Montpellier and Beizers both provide both local airports and TGV train stations for accessing Cap d'Agde. Rochelongue Plage is a wide, long expanse of golden sand with lovely views down to the Pyrenees and Spain in the distance.

Rochelongue has been attracting holiday-makers for over 70 years and it is frequently listed in the Top 10 best beaches in Languedoc. The beach provides plenty of space and the cool beach bars make Rochelongue Plage an ideal beach to chill-out during those hot summer days in South France. Rochelongue Plage has been awarded a European Blue Flag for many years, on account of the cleanliness of the beach and the water.

Best Cap d'Agde beaches South France

Rochelonge plage, is situated on the western side of Cap d'Agde. It is our preferred choice out of the 5 main Cap d'Agde beaches (Plage de la Roquille, Plage de Môle, Plage de Richelieu and La Grande Conque). There is a nice beach side restaurant and bar and you get lovely sweeping views of the whole bay down to Narbonne plage. This fine sandy beach extends out in the direction of le Grau d'Agde.

From Rochelongue Plage you also have a wonderful view to the Fort de Brescou, a former prison and garrison dating back to before Napoleon's time. On a clear day, you can also down the Mediterranean coast to the Pyrenees and Spain.

In terms of the other beaches in Cap d'Agde, Rochelongue Plage gets my vote for the following reasons:

• La Grande Conque is located in the centre of Cap d'Agde and it is quite nice because it is framed by a horseshoe-shaped cliff. The water is very clear and shallow and it is popular with families and swimmers. But the sand is quite gritty and dark in colour (it is formed from erode volcanic rock) and it can also be a nightmare to find a parking space nearby.
• La Môle is a nice beach and it is good if you have young children because the water is shallow and you also have the Captain Jako Water Park at the back of the beach, which is great for toddlers and younger children. But the beach does get very crowded and parking can be an issue in high season.
• Plage de la Roquille does have my favourite beach bar in Cap d'Agde (Mangos) and parking is not normally an issue, but I just find that the beach lacks a bit of atmosphere.
• Plage de Richelieu is located next to Plague de Rochelongue and it does have a closer view of Fort de Brescou. It is also very handy for accessing the Île des Loisirs (Leisure Island). But this beach does get very busy and there are not the same range of bars, cafes and restaurants at the back of the beach, where you can get a break from the sun.

Rochelongue Plage is located close to the Île des Loisirs (Leisure Island) which is home to the Aqualand water park, Dinoland (a childrens amusement park), Luna Park (a theme park) and Amnesia, the famous Cap d'Agde nightclub.

There are some nice shops and cafes at the rear of Rochelongue beach and you also have the l'infini Beach bar and restaurant actually on the beach. The beach itself is long and flat and kept immaculately clean. The water is quite shallow, so you have to wade out quite a way before you can swim. But this makes it perfect for young children.

Rochelongue Plage, Cap d'Agde

You can reach Rochelongue Plage by taking the A9 to junction 34 and then follow the RN312 and RN112 to Cap d'Agde. You will see an exit for Rochelonge plage as soon as you enter Cap d'Agde. There is a car park just near the entrance to the beach. If this is full however, try the car park for the Aqualand park (about a 10 min walk). 

So if you want to experience one of the best Languedoc beaches then head for Rochelongue Plage. In the height of the tourist season you will need to arrive early (or after 16.00) to get a parking spot and a good place on the beach.
